A project-centered course. 9 in-person sessions.
Mondays, 3:30-5pm. Beginning January 2019. Williamsburg, MA
Perfect for the small business owner, entrepreneur or hobbyist. Learn to build and maintain your own WordPress website.
Upon completion of this DIY course you will have your own 6 page brochure-style website with a simple contact form.
You will need to bring a wifi-enabled laptop to our meetings. You will have homework to complete before the class begins, as well as between each session. All levels welcome, but a basic computer, website and email proficiency is required.
In this course you will:
- Get Hands on WordPress Experience
- Create a 6 Page Brochure (text and images) Style Website
- Select and Implement a Theme
- Select and Install Plugins
- Create a Contact Form
- Learn Security and Maintenance Best Practices
All content for your website will be provided by you. If you do not have content ready for your site when the course begins, there will be time to develop it as homework during the course. The term “content” encompasses any headlines, text, images, artwork, photography, or logos you will add to your website. In each case, you should have permission to use content that was not created by you. If you need resources for stock photography or dummy text, I can provide them. If you already have a WordPress website, you can export and re-use your content, or build new.
Important Note! You will need to purchase your own hosting and domain before the class begins. Recommendations upon enrollment.
WordPress is a free, open source, user friendly, web browser-based Content Management System, that allows you to create and publish your content on the web. If you can fill out a web form, you can publish content with WordPress. Hosting costs vary, depending on your needs. Reliable hosting costs ~$40-$100 / year.
Extended sessions may be available to dig deeper into simple third-party (etsy, instagram, patreon) integrations, theme customization or email marketing depending on interest. This course will not cover e-commerce or SEO in any depth, but this could be considered if an extended session is scheduled.
